(Waldorf, MD): The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs have added two Veteran pitchers with ample experience in affiliate organizations, as 31-year-old right-hander Jason Creasy returns, and six-year veteran right-hander Shawn Semple has also been signed.
Creasy began his career after being selected in the eighth round of the MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2011. He makes a return to the Crabs after pitching 32 innings in 2018, with a sub-two ERA before being signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks in mid-August. He then pitched in the Braves Organization in both Double and Triple-A from 2019-2022. In his nine years in the minors, he has thrown 600.2 innings, and has a 36-31 record, in exactly 200 appearances. His 1.96 ERA with Southern Maryland in 2018 was the second lowest in his career, behind only his rookie season with the Pirates Organization where he only threw five innings. Creasy is a Clayton, North Carolina native.
The 28-year-old Semple hails from Vorhees, New Jersey, and comes to Southern Maryland after six years in the minor leagues making it all the way to Triple-A with the Yankees. He was drafted by New York in 11th round in 2017 out of the University of New Orleans. During his time in Somerset with the Double-A Patriots, he was a part of history as Yankees rehabbing starter Luis Severino, Semple and Ron Marinaccio combined to toss the first no-hitter in affiliated Somerset history in 2021. Both of those pitchers are currently in the MLB. Semple carries a career record of 32-28, hurling 451.1 innings, while striking out 422 batters, which equates to 8.4 strikeouts per 9 innings, which is well above average. He has been both a starter and a reliever throughout his career, notching five saves to his ledger.
