(9/22/2022, Lancaster, PA) The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs led until the ninth inning on Wednesday Night. The Blue Crabs had a 7-3 advantage going into the ninth inning, but the Barnstormers’ rallied from four behind to tie the game, before winning 8-7 in the tenth inning.
Southern Maryland started the scoring in the first inning. With runners on the corners and one outs, David Harris ripped a base hit up the middle, scoring Michael Wielansky, giving Southern Maryland a 1-0 edge. The next batter, Joe DeLuca launched a two-run triple to left-center field, scoring a pair to give the Blue Crabs a 3-0 lead. DeLuca later scored to give Southern Maryland a 4-0 advantage.
The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs had a 4-0 lead going into the seventh inning. Mitch Lambson held the Barnstormers bats at bay until the seventh, when he allowed a two-run homer to Jacob Barfield, cutting the lead to 4-2. Mitch Lambson exited the game after six and two-thirds innings, allowing only two runs on seven hits and no walks.
Southern Maryland added two insurance runs in the eighth innings. Ryan Haug and Jack Sundberg each added an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-2. After Lancaster cut the deficit to 6-3, Ryan Haug delivered again, driving in Joe DeLuca and giving the Blue Crabs a 7-3 edge.
In the ninth, Endrys Briceno struggled. Anthony Peroni led off as he ripped a line drive to right before Shawon Dunston Jr. sent one back into right, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Andretty Cordero drove in Anthony Peroni on a blooper to center, cutting the deficit to 7-4. With runners on first and second and one out, Ariel Sandoval lifted a shallow homer over the wall in right field, tying the score at 7-7.
In the tenth inning, the Blue Crabs had three baserunners off of West Tunnell (W, 1-1), but could not score a run. In the bottom of the 10th inning, Connor Law (L, 0-1) allowed a solo home run to Jake Hoover on a routine fly ball that barely cleared the wall in right field, giving the Barnstormers an 8-7 victory.
The Blue Crabs look to get back on track tomorrow at they take on the Barnstormers for game three of the series.
