(Lancaster, PA, July 17th, 2021) Following a heart-breaking loss, the Blue Crabs defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers, 4-1 in a five-inning rain shortened game on Saturday night. Alex Crosby was the contest’s hero, scoring three on a bases clearing double in the top of the fifth.
Kolton Mahoney (W, 4-1) brought his best to Clipper Magazine Stadium. The right-hander picked up his fourth win in as many starts, allowing just one run over five innings. In his last two starts, the Layton, Utah native has allowed just two runs in 13 combined innings.
Dario Pizzano (4) hit a solo shot with two outs in the top of the first inning, and the Barnstormers responded with one of their own in the bottom of the fourth.
After Southern Maryland struggled in the clutch in the series opener, Crosby came through this evening in the top of the fifth with the bases loaded and two-outs, belting a bases clearing double. The trio of runs put Southern Maryland on top 4-1 right before the rain came down in Lancaster. Crosby is seven for his last sixteen at the plate with two doubles, two homers, and five RBI.
The skies opened up in the bottom of the fifth inning, but just enough play elapsed to be considered a complete game. Southern Maryland’s bullpen got the night off, and the squad will look to secure a series win on Sunday before returning to Waldorf for a six game homestand.
