York, PA- Riding a two-game deficit heading into the third of a four-game series with the York Revolution, the Blue Crabs had something to prove. Ultimately, York would get the edge in the contest, winning by a score of 4-0 as Southern Maryland was unable to provide the necessary run support to help their pitching staff.
John Hayes (L, 0-2) was handed the ball for Southern Maryland, and in the third start of his professional career he put together an exceptional game, as he would settle down after a rocky first two frames in which the Revs posted one run in the first, and two in the second. The first of which came from the Blue Crabs’ kryptonite, Telvin Nash, who continued a splendid series driving in J.P. Sportman for the first run of the game. Nate Coronado kept it going on a two-run blast the next inning, putting York ahead 3-0 through a pair of innings.
Southern Maryland threatened York’s lead in the fourth when Jose Julio-Ruiz singled in his first game of the season, and Charlie Valerio reached via the error, putting two on with two down in the top of the fourth inning. The scoring threat would come to pass when Jalen Miller (W,1-1) worked out of the jam in his first inning of relief for the Revs starter, Ian Thomas, keeping the score at 3-0.
Adam Atkins came into relieve Hayes, who would go five and a third innings, allowing four of his five earned runs on the season. Atkins maintained his perfect ERA on the 2019 campaign, and Mat Latos followed, matching his predecessor’s scoreless performance. It wouldn’t prove to be enough however, as the damage had already been done and the Blue Crabs were unable to muster an ounce of run support, dropping game three of the series to the Revs by a score of 4-0.
The Blue Crabs return home to Regency Furniture Stadium this Friday, May 24th, with a 6:35 PM first pitch. Friday marks the first of a seven-day, seven-game homestand,
