(Waldorf, Md., Jan. 24, 2019) - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs have announced their first signing of the 2019 season, led by the return of infielder Jon Griffin.
Griffin rejoins the Blue Crabs after a successful 2018 season, with 257 plate appearances in 71 games. Griffin averaged .280 and crushed 11 homeruns and 29 RBI’s all in his first season with the team.
The Florida native was drafted in the 21stround of the 2011 MLB draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks out of the University of Central Florida and made his professional baseball debut within the organization in Missoula, Montana. Griffin spent four seasons in the Atlantic League before making his was to Southern Maryland last season. In 2015, Griffin spent a year with the Long Island Ducks and then headed north for three years to play in the New Britain Bees organization.
“We are very excited to begin formulating our roster for the upcoming season as Opening Day fast approaches,” said Manager Stan Cliburn. “I look forward to Griffin returning this season after a great year, bringing us one step closer to the ultimate goal of bringing home a championship in 2019.”
