(Waldorf, Md., Feb. 14, 2019) - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs have announced the signing of right handed pitcher, Miguel Nunez, for the 2019 season.
This season will be Nunez’s first playing independent baseball, as the 26 year old from the Dominican Republic has spent a majority of his playing career in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Nunez reached as high as the AA affiliate for the Phillies, the Reading Fighting Phils, in 2016. The towering presence of Nunez, who stands at 6-6 posted a career best 3.11 ERA in his 45 games in a Fighting Phils uniform.
Despite this being his first time playing in the Atlantic League, Nunez will have some familiarity when he arrives in Southern Maryland. In 2017, Nunez was teammates with Blue Crab legend, and current pitching coach/player Daryl Thompson. The two played together in the Venezuelan Winter League for Caribes de Anzoategui, the league champions that season.
“I am very excited about signing with the Blue Crabs because competing never gets old,” said Nunez. “I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to establishing a winning culture with the boys.”
The team opens the 2019 season on May 3rd at home against the Lancaster Barnstormers. To save your seat at the ballpark for the upcoming season and other team news, visit www.somdbluecrabs.com or call 301-638-9788.
