BLUE CRABS ANNOUNCE 5K RACE AT REGENCY FURNITURE STADIUM
Saturday, June 12, 2010

Joint Event With Civista Health Foundation Will Benefit Hospital

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs will hold a 5K run (3.1 miles) on Saturday, June 12, and the race will begin and end at Regency Furniture Stadium. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Civista Health Foundation, the presenting sponsor of the 2010 season of Blue Crabs baseball.

In addition, there is a “fun run” that will be presented by the Charles County Health Department’s “We-Can!” program (Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity & Nutrition). We Can! is a national movement designed to give parents, caregivers and entire communities a way to help children eight to 13 years old stay at a healthy weight.

Runners can register now in advance at www.active.com, or can register the day of the race at the ballpark between 7:30 and 8:15 a.m. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m.

The cost is $30.00 per runner 13 and over and $20.00 for children 12 and under. Race organizers are encouraging participants to pre-register, and providing an incentive that only those runners who register in advance online at www.active.com before Saturday, June 5 will receive a free t-shirt. Every participant in the fun run will receive a ticket voucher good for any Blue Crabs game at Regency Furniture Stadium, excluding the Fourth of July. Those 12 and younger who run will also receive a free PNC Kids Zone playground wristband for one Blue Crabs game, a $15.00 value.

“Our partnership with Civista will continue to grow stronger and stronger with events such as this,” said Blue Crabs Marketing Manager Courtney Freeland. “When Civista signed on as presenting sponsor, events like these promoting good health and using our facility are exactly what we had in mind. We expect a huge turnout, and a great race,” Freeland continued.

For more information on this event, contact the Civista Health foundation at 301-609-4132 or Freeland at 301-374-1130.

The Blue Crabs teamed up with the Civista Health Foundation as the team’s main charitable partner this season to help raise money and awareness for the county’s only non-profit hospital with several promotional events. Details of all Blue Crabs/Civista activities are available at www.civista.org/foundation.htm. The Civista Health Foundation works to enhance the hospital’s financial resources so it may provide excellent health care services to all members of the community.
