Regency Furniture Stadium Turned Into A Soccer Field For A Night To Host A Friendly Match Between Crystal Palace Baltimore And Crystal Palace U.k.
Crystal Palace Baltimore hosted their big-sister team, Crystal Palace Football Club, in a friendly match at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, Md. The big-sister program, from London, England, picked up the win in its first of two stops in the U.S. this week.
Crystal Palace U.K. defeated Crystal Palace Baltimore 5-2, on a baseball field turned into a soccer pitch on Monday night.
Alan Lee scored first for Crystal Palace U.K. to take an early lead in the 12th minute. However, Val Teixeira, captain of Crystal Palace Baltimore, answered right back with a goal six minutes later to excite over two-thousand fans.
However, the big-sister club caught a lucky break late in the first half with the first of two freebie goals. Zackary Flores, of Baltimore, accidently deflected a blind cross to no body, and the ball found its way into his own net.
In the second half, Freddie Sears picked up a goal for U.K. in the 53rd minute to take a 3-1 lead. But, Baltimore wasn’t finished yet, as a give-and-go played perfectly by Jordan Seabrook and Pat Healey, gave Seabrook a breakaway goal.
While Baltimore was able to contend for most of the game, it was hard to match the big club’s pace for a full 90 minutes. Alassane N'Diaye scored in the 72nd minute to essentially seal the deal for Crystal Palace U.K. In the stoppage time during the 90th minute, U.K. got their second freebie of the night, when a shot deflected off of Flores and into the back of the net again.
The soccer game was the second special event hosted by Regency Furniture Stadium and the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, while the baseball team play on a seven-game road trip. Last Saturday, the Military All-Stars played the Latin All-Stars that turned into a 6-5 victory for the Latin All-Stars.
On Wednesday, the field will host a third special event as the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League All-Stars will take on the Valley Collegiate Baseball League All-Stars in the Mid-Atlantic Classic. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and admission is free to the event. If you cannot make it to the event, be sure to check it out live on MASN.
